“Hello! My name is Lahna Moon, and I am a member of the Kalama High School graduating class of 2025. I enjoy participating in various hobbies, many of which involve the outdoors and nature. Another one of those things is art, and my favorite thing to do is combine the two.
In the past, I attended an art school where I worked with various media and processes, which provided me with many of the fundamentals I have today. Using these two elements, I can present my stories in a way that highlights the beauty of the natural world.
My piece is of great importance to me, as it represents many different aspects of my life. Above, I mentioned that I love the outdoors, and one of the things I enjoy doing outdoors is hunting with my dad. This is where I combine my hobbies, including enjoying nature, hunting, and artwork. My piece allows me to honor the animal that provides for my family in a beautiful way that others can enjoy and appreciate as well. Along with this, I enjoy the entire process of painting deer skulls. It’s relaxing (most of the time) and gives me a way to express my creativity and interests.
My plans after high school include managing a plant shop while gathering the necessary experience and knowledge to potentially open my own business in the future. With my high school graduation, I will also be graduating from Lower Columbia College this year with my AA degree. One other fun aspect of my art is being able to share it with others; I have sold two other pieces similar to the one I am presenting today at a local shop.
The first thing I ask when I hear a piece sold is what the person who bought it was like. I love being able to listen to the excitement and plans that people have for my art. Knowing that the fantastic animals and art are being displayed in someone’s home for them to enjoy is the best feeling!
Every year I hunt and am continually amazed by the beauty of the natural world as well as what it has to offer. Every trip out into the woods, I am inspired by something new, so I’m sure my art journey will not stop any time soon.”
